The two main PS2 titles of Star Wars Battlefront were pretty popular third-person shooters in which you'd take on the role of various Star Wars characters, most of whom were well-known guys like Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Darth Vader, etc. If you're not too familiar with the franchise, it featured large-scale combat, along with the ability to pilot notable vehicles from Star Wars lore. The DS version is about as scaled back as you can get with a Battlefront game, and while the PSP iteration did little to impress me, I still found myself drawn to the DS version's simple single-player campaign time and time again. The Battlefront series has long been known for fun multiplayer action, with most of the single-player portion taking a backseat to choosing a Jedi avatar or other notable face in the Star Wars universe and trading blaster shots with your friend online, either on the ground or in space. It has some serious flaws, such as it being called a "Battlefront" game while only supporting up to four people in local multiplayer. All footage was captured via the PPSSPP emulator.I found myself liking Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron on the DS a lot more than I probably should have. This game was reviewed using a commercial copy of the game purchased by me. Platforms: PSP, PS Vita (Reviewed via Backwards Compatibility ) Game: Star Wars: Battlefront: Elite Squadron Hurriedly put together by Rebellion ( Aliens: Versus Predator, Sniper Elite), it salvages what bits and pieces were leftover - including the ability to fly from ground to space! That's a lot of potential to put on the shoulders of a spin-off title for a handheld slightly weaker than the PlayStation 2.

What game is this? None other than Star Wars: Battlefront: Elite Squadron.Įlite Squadron is not only a Battlefront game from the PSP's twilight years, but an attempt to recoup from the loss of Free Radical's cancelled Battlefront III. It's been long forgotten, and due to platform exclusivity, most people never got the chance to try it. If EA's take on Star Wars: Battlefront left you out in the cold, then believe it or not, there's another option out there for a modern Battlefront experience.
